As C.E.O. and Founder of Four Twenty, LLC, Sakara Barnes not only facilitates and shepherds production and distribution of the company’s high-quality exotic cannabis product throughout Southern California, but she also maintains the utmost standards of inclusion and diversity.
After a career across fashion, nightlife, and culture, she stands out as one of the industry’s leading minority female owners with multiple licenses in Los Angeles. A cultivation, distribution and delivery license.
In the process, she presents a new paradigm for the industry. “I’m most proud of the fact I’ve built a business consisting of women and an ethnically diverse team,” she exclaims. “We started from ground zero, with very little and are maintaining momentum and building to the point where this will be a sustainable business for a long time.”Growing up in New York, Sakara recognized her entrepreneurial
instinct at a young age. Mom made clothes and sold them at flea markets and garage sales, bringing her daughter along. Father was a retired hustler from Harlem and became a bookkeeper at LIJ hospital. Absorbing the family’s business acumen, she even started selling keychains, Halloween decorations, and D.I.Y. toys at school. “At nine-years-old, I knew I was going to be a mogul,” she smiles.
By the age of sixteen, she launched her own events collective, hosting parties, charity events, and concerts around New York. She spent a decade impacting the city’s nightlife before launching her clothing line Dymes Only. Major celebrities sported the brand, including Miley Cyrus, Angela Simmons and Ashanti to name a few. In 2017, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in cannabis. Sakara launched Four Twenty in 2018. She took a chance with her last $3,000 ; applied for the license in Los Angeles and notably acquired a cultivation and distribution license. Seeking out partners and investors she was finally able to build and establish the company after 2 and a half years. It took around 2 more years to build the facility and get up and running, as of 2023 Sakara manages and operates the now multi million dollar facility in Downtown, Los Angeles.
Shortly after starting Sakara hired her little brother and he currently is one of the lead cultivators. Family is a major factor in creating this business and will remain the leading driver for her passions.
Sakara elevates the entire vertical with a mission.“We stand for the community,” she leaves off. “We stand for hardworking people who aren’t afraid to hustle and give 100% to their craft. Our main goal is to make the next generation self-sufficient and create generational wealth for as many people as possible. I want to show you can literally create something special from nothing. That’s what I hope this
business represents.”
